Random Round Rup

Yes I know it is meant to be 'UP' but I liked the three 'R's.

Here is a tiny bit of our Summer so far. Not much to report since we are taking it easy and having lots of pyjama days and "just us" time. "Just us" time is our very favourite but only if it is interspersed with the occasional socialising with friends.

Happy flowers on the Breakfast Terrace table. (AKA back yard table)

Beautiful smelling climbing rose next to the Breakfast Terrace Table. It starts off cream and slowly fades to peach and then finally pink. It is gorgeous.

The Red Arrows were doing a show at Weston Super Mare pier and were regrouping over our house. So exciting. I love the Red Arrows. They make me skip about.

I worked out how to do simple cables when we were at a picnic in the park next to the surgery. Little has a persistent outer ear infection so we have been to the Doctors a few times. Man, his ear STINKS!

Here is a "Just Us' pyjama day in action.

Here is Mini getting into mischief which I believe is his default setting. He is almost 18 months old now and is wild!

Here is my Bee. My friend since we were 12. Here we are playing our "Pull a Face" game. Her little family came to stay for the weekend. Her husband is one of the Cool Boys from my youth. The unobtainable. Sometimes I look at him in my kitchen helping himself to a cuppa and I think to myself "OMG! I can't believe DB is in my kitchen!" Such a funny feeling. It transports me back to being 14. I had an enormous crush on his brother. Now his brother and I are godparents to their son. Funny how life turns out!

We went on a lush bike ride, Us lot and Bee's family. It was so great to get out on Lou Lou. I filled her basket with essentials. Nappies, phone, plasters etc...

There's me looking like I'm wearing a White Witch's Wig and doing my best to set off without falling off. It's hard work trying to get going with Mini's chariot on the back.

That little blessing in the chariot makes me want to sing! I just adore seeing him running about with his brothers all day long. It's so nice having them home all the time. Talk to me in a few weeks and I may have changed my tune

I have been making a ginormous effort in the garden this year and as a result I have had fresh flowers in the house constantly. My nightly read is limited to gardening guide books and I have subscribed to Gardeners World. I do not like gardening but i am finally seeing some good results and so I feel spurred on. I'm going to try to maintain momentum so that the garden starts to looks good in the spring.

This is a rose that I thought I had made a pruning mistake with. I have been seeing roses like this all through blog land and instagram through out June yet mine didn't flower till just a couple of weeks ago. So worth the wait.

Hurrah! The garden is beginning to look how I hoped.

That's our view from the snug, I planted those Nicotiana thingies there because they smell nice at night. I thought we would open the window and sniff in the fragrance. I forgot Mr T gets hay fever. Also it has been a bit on the chilly side here in England.

Garden pickings. I could just hop on the spot! These came from my garden. I grew these flowers. I cannot believe it! I cannot believe my dahlias didn't get killed off through the winter.

I finally finished a dress I started sewing last year. It fits like a.......sack! It's bad bad bad, But I have a plan and I hope to get it just right at some point.

So there we go! A Random Round Rup.

xxx

ps. I have finally made it into the realms of a Bonafide Blogger, not only do I get about 20 spam emails a day (I'm resisting Word Verification), I got a Troll commenter on my last post! Can you Adam and Eve it!! Ha! I think they are called trolls anyway. You don't get very many in the crafting community so I'm not sure of the correct terminology. Anyway a person, I assume a woman, left an unkind comment on my last post. She was an anonymous commenter of course, aren't they always? I felt quite upset to begin with. Yes Madam Anonymous, you succeeded in your mission, you hurt a person you don't know who has never done anything unpleasant to you aside from write in a way you don't like. Anyway, I'd like to thank those of you who saw the comment and either posted a response or contacted me directly or reassured me on instagram. So despite the best efforts of that person I am still in love with blogging and most importantly I have had a personal Epiphany. Some of you may recall my post last October where I revealed all about my experience with depression, well his commenter has made me realise just how far I have come. How well my head is these days. Yes, I know I am still medicated but my head handled this little upset very, very well. Maybe a year ago I would have broken down over it. Not the case now. I'm thankful of the timing actually. So I guess I owe Madam Anonymous a huge heartfelt THANK YOU! Thank you for making me realise I am finally really quite well.

  1. Some people are just mean, I always think if someone's not very nice to me then they actually aren't a very happy person! It stops me feeling cross with them, which isn't good for you anyway, and I feel sad for them. The blogging community is just great, they are probably just jealous that they are missing out on all our fun! Ada :)

  2. Oh, what a fabulous post! I love all your photos, it looks like you're all having a wonderful summer holiday! Your dress is lovely (even if it does fit like a sack!) and I hope you can sort it out.

I'm so sorry you got a horrible comment on your last post - some people just can't bear to be nice or, for some reason, think it's clever to be deliberately (and calculatedly) nasty...it's not big and it's not clever, it's actually rather small and petty. I'm so glad that some good came out of it - well done for being generous (and clever) enough to find a silver lining xx

P.S. I LOVE the photo of the Red Arrows - wow!!!

  3. Oh my, that unkind comment wasn't there when I read your previous post so I missed it entirely. On the plus side they seem to be saying they're not going to bother with your blog in future - hurray for that!

I have your blog on my reader, look forward to your posts, comment infrequently but have felt worried enough to email you in the past when you've been absent for a while - this is the least I can do when I enjoy your blog so much and have had great success with the bobble blanket tutorial which you've been kind enough to post. Well done for dealing with this so positively, it's great to hear you feel so strong. Go Cuckoo!

  4. So glad you're feeling better, that is wonderful news. Pay no attention to that nasty comment - honestly, if you can't say something nice then just don't say anything at all! Your flowers are so beautiful, I wish I could have a garden like that!

  5. I am glad you feel better than you did a while ago that's great news, you have a beautiful garden well done for that, especially with three kids to look after. My garden is now officially a jungle with weeds twice as tall as me and I have a degree in garden design ha ha. That didn't so me any good did it.

  6. I love your blog and your piccies on I G. Some people must lead very sad lives if they feel the need to comment like that. Your little bed of flowers looks amazing - for someone who doesn't like gardening you're doing a brilliant job! xx

  7. Saw the comment on your last post and nearly responded then - will add my voice now. Your blog is one of the few that has had me laughing out loud on several occasions (the flaming Christmas story for one) so please don't stop being you.

  8. Wow, look at your flowers, you're like a proper gardener now, I was going to say Charlie Dimmock, but to be honest, i'm not sure that's a compliment....loving your dahlias, they're beautiful.

I have lots of thoughts on your anonymous commenter, but I'm a lady in the company of other polite ladies, so I will just think them, not say them. I love reading your posts, seeing your pics and laughing at your stories, keep it up, I'd be gutted if you stopped.

  9. Your garden is looking amazing Cuckoo for a soul that is not all that keen you are working wonders! I sometimes think the reward of having lovely flowers can help.

Love your dress and I am sure you can solve the few winkles you have with it. I would love to make some clothes it is on my very long to do list.

Boo hiss and pee off to the troll commenter quite frankly. Some people are such cowardly dorks! I opted for only id commenters on my blog so far so good cant be doing with negativity it kills the soul. And I think there is too much of it about these days. Right I will just slide off my soap box now! lol.

Looks like you are all having an amazing summer holiday just like it should be time together!Long may it continue for you all.

  12. How brilliant is that rose?! I thought it was a Capella. Glad to hear your depression is now under control, sad that the realisation has to come in such an unkind manner. And congratulations on such a lovely garden, your hard work has paid off, wish I could do the same.

  14. Cuckoo, I'm so glad you have put such a positive spin on the negative comment. Good for you! I think it's always better to look for the positive and you have done a great job.

It looks like you and the kiddies are having a wondeful summer. And for someone who doesn't like to garden, you are doing an amazing job.

Hang tough and stay as positive as you are. : )

  15. Well!!!!! for someone who doesn't like gardening/doesn't think they can, look at what you have achieved....yay!!!! It is gorgeous and looks so much nicer than mine. Isn't it just the best to be able to go out and pick a bunch from your very own??? I love it. Although not for long, just found out the owner is selling so I will be on the move again, hopefully the next house is just perfect and has a lovely garden already. (hate moving) You are looking great, which is a reflection of what is happening on the inside Mrs, and you and Bee :) :)

  18. Nice kids, nice godson, nice garden, nice flowers, nice breakfast terrace table, nice Bee, nice bike...but if that dress is fitting you like a sack, then it only means one thing.....it is just too big.
Which can only mean one other thing...
    It might fit meeeeeeeeee! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
    A seriously pretty dress.

  19. I love your blog which I have only been reading a short time. You are courageous to speak out about your depression, people who have it or have had it need to be open and help others to understand it. It is wonderful to be able to turn a bad thing like your commenter into a positive, well done! I too have suffered (and I use the word advisedly) from depression, and doesnt it feel wonderful to be out of it!!! Keep going, Cuckoo xxxx

  20. People are cut from different cloth... some are thick, scratchy polyester and some are hand spun silk. It goes without saying that you are the latter. Your blogging style is beautiful and you should be proud of everything you have achieved. I enjoy visiting your blog very much x

  21. I love your garden, it looks beautiful. Well done you! I'm pants when it comes to gardening. I've got a brown thumb as most things seem to die :(

Love the pic of you and your mate. What a hoot!

Well done on coping with Mrs Troll. She pops up all over the show unfortunately. She really is such an attention seeking creature. Best to ignore her when she shows her face on Blogland.

  22. Oh, you are just so lovely!
Me and the Mister invested in a subscription to Gardner's World magazine when we first had a garden (a good few years back, now)- we had no idea what we were doing and were fed up with spending a bazillion pounds at the garden centre, only to have the whole bloody lot die a week later.
Now, we seem to know what we're doing and our garden is 'getting there'. Yours looks gorgeous!
    Happy weekend to you all!

  26. Hello Cuckoo, a random comment for a random round rup! I have been following your blog from afar for about a year and just love it, always looking forward to your posts. Your blog looks beautiful, which was what brought me here initially (actually it was your tutorial on how to make a notice board, which was fabulous but I have still not made it!), and is so inspiring for a frustrated crafter like myself, but I have kept coming back because of your lovely honest writing... Thank you for sharing as you do. I would sincerely miss you if you stopped blogging.

It looks like you had a fab weekend as for the cowardly commenter, they are just jealous and as my Gran use to say if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Deb x

  29. Good evening Cuckoo! Just checked in at Cuckoo Land after my holiday. Boo to Anonymous! What a saddo! 30. Bless you, your blog has made me chuckle and mad all at the same time.

I didn't know that you had a comment from a troll, if I had known and read it I would have been so so mad and god forbid I ever found out who they were (which of course I probably would't) coz I'd have hunted them down and floored them, I throw a god punch you know, bit protective of my cuckoo.

Anyway, I loved our wkend and coming up again yesterday, my two never want to leave, well neither do I, I loved the bike ride and it made me laugh when you and Wilfy jackknifed!! tee hee.

How funny that you think that of Darr, when he'd stood in MY kitchen, I look at him and think 'get outta my effin kitchen'...:-)

  33. Glad your hols are going well so far. Your garden is looking beautiful. Mine looks a total mess now and I really cannot be bothered with it. I have too much to do in the house at the moment to bother with the outside.

As for your nasty anonymous comment on your last post, I just don't get people. If you don't like a blog, don't read it and move on. It says a lot about a person who has to leave a comment like that. You sort of have to feel sorry for them in a way, that it's so obvious by their comments that their life is so unfulfilled and they are not blessed with manners.

Looks like you had an awesome time with Bee!

Grrr to anonymous sad lady. I didn't see the comment but it is a real shame that some people feel it necessary to write horrible things. I guess with blogging, as with life, you do get the odd 'bad egg' occasionally.
Hope our summer continues in this gorgeous vein,

  38. Gorgeous post hon! Your flowers are fantastic and I am soooo motivated to spend time in my garden now. The weather at this end of the world is not particularly fab just now so the weeds have well and truly taken over and it's too wet to get them sorted. Good excuse anyway! Loving the pic of you on your beautiful bike. I desperately want a bike with a basket for this coming summer. Fingers crossed Father Christmas hears my wish!

Well done on your wonderful attitude to that rotten troll. I can't believe how horrible people can be sometimes. I really thought we left that sort of bullying behind in the school grounds when we were kids. Your blog is gorgeous, your words always make me smile and it's a pleasure to pop in and visit you. Have a fabulous week hon.
